Bumrah played an instrumental role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.
The right-arm quick played an instrumental role in India’s Asia Cup 2023 triumph and then dominated the batters during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup last year.
Bumrah carried on his brilliance to Test cricket on the tour of South Africa and in the home series against England. To top it all, he was declared Player-of-the-Tournament in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory after finishing the competition with 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.50.
Speaking at the CEAT awards event, New Zealand Test captain Tim Southee on Wednesday (August 21) lauded Jasprit Bumrah's strong comeback to cricket after a career-threatening injury.
Talking about Bumrah's enhanced skillset, Southee attributed it to experience and a period of rejuvenation during his time away from the game.
"To be able to firstly bounce back from the major injury and come back, he's even better than what he was beforehand,” Southee said.
“Throw in on top of that, having to juggle multiple formats, can be difficult at times as well. He seems to have been able to do that with ease as well. He's probably more experienced, understands his game a bit more. He probably had that time where he was injured to come back and be recharged, refreshed," he added.
Hailing Bumrah's supremacy across all formats, the Kiwi seamer said, "We are just seeing a great version (of Bumrah) across all three formats. He's brilliant across all three at the moment. I don't think there's anyone that he's better in (better than him), he is tremendous across all three (formats)."
Jasprit Bumrah is currently managing his workload. He didn’t travel with the Indian team to Sri Lanka for the white-ball series. The ace paceman is expected to return to action during the home Test series against Bangladesh next month.
