Yuvraj Singh’s long-standing record of 36 runs in an over in a T20I match has now been broken. The former India batter had smashed 6 sixes in an over off England pacer Stuart Broad during the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup in 2007.

17 years later, Samoa’s wicketkeeper-batter Darius Visser shattered this record by hitting 39 runs off Vanuatu seamer Nalin Nipiko in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A match at Garden Oval No.2 in Apia, Samao.

Visser slammed six massive sixes alongside benefiting from three no-balls bowled by Nipiko during the over. His explosive display also eclipsed the more recent efforts from Kieron Pollard (2021 - 36 runs), Nicholas Pooran (2024 - 36 runs), Dipendra Singh Airee (2024 - 36 runs).

In the process, Darius Visser also became the first Samoan batter to register a century in the T20I format of the game. Visser's 132 off 62 balls, studded with 14 sixes and five fours, propelled Samoa to a total of 174 in 20 overs.

Samoan bowlers were able to defend the total by restricting Vanuatu to 164 in the East Asia-Pacific qualifying tournament.
