For the first time since 1991-92, India will travel to Australia for a five-Test series later this year. One of the five Tests will be a day/night encounter with the pink ball, to be played in Adelaide from December 6 onwards.

Cricket Australia, on Friday, August 9, 2024, announced that Team India will play a two-day practice game under lights with the pink ball ahead of the Adelaide D/N Test. The floodlit fixture two-day game will be played on November 30 and December 1 and will be sandwiched between the opening Test in Perth (November 22-26) and the day-night second Test at Adelaide Oval (December 6-10).

We’re delighted to confirm India’s involvement in this year’s Prime Minister’s XI match that emphasizes the significance of the fixture on the cricketing calendar. The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy Series will captivate the cricketing world. Today’s confirmation of the Prime Minister’s XI match is a terrific result for cricket fans, particularly in the ACT and surrounding regions, and adds to an incredible summer of cricket,” Nick Hockley, the Cricket Australia CEO said in a CA statement.

On their previous tour to Australia in 2020-21, India lost the day-night Test in Adelaide by eight wickets after being swept out for 36 in the second innings, but famously recovered to win the series 2-1 in Brisbane.

Overall, India has only played four day-night Tests, the most recent in 2022 against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, whilst Australia has played 12 (all at home), with last season's eight-run loss to the West Indies in Brisbane their first defeat against the pink ball.

India is scheduled to face Australia in the opening Test, starting November 22 at the Perth Stadium. Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney will host the third, fourth, and fifth Tests respectively. India have won back-to-back Test series in Australia.
