Morne Morkel, former South Africa pacer, will join the Team India coaching staff as the bowling coach. He will replace Paras Mhambrey in the capacity from the previous coaching regime.

Cricbuzz reported that Morkel’s tenure will begin from the Bangladesh series at home in September. India and Bangladesh will clash in two Tests and three T20Is in India.

Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, Sairaj Bahutule was made part of the Gambhir-led coaching staff due to spin friendly surfaces of the island nation.

As per the report, it is unknown whether Bahutule will remain with the team following Morkel's anticipated arrival; the South African lacks specific expertise in spin-bowling assistance.

With five of India's Tests in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle taking place at home, it will be intriguing to watch if the team management sticks with Bahutule or switches to the star former South African pacer.

If Bahutule retains his position, the team's coaching staff will be extensive, including head coach Gambhir, two assistant coaches (Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate), bowling coach Morne Morkel, fielding coach T Dilip, and a spin bowling coach.

Morne Morkel played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for South Africa from 2006-2020. He picked 309, 188, and 47 wickets respectively. After his cricket career, Morkel transitioned into coaching and was Pakistan’s bowling coach in the 2023 ICC World Cup.

He was previously associated with Gautam Gambhir in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL for two seasons.
