Gautam Gambhir's tenure will begin with India's tour of Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
Gautam Gambhir was named as the new Team India head coach by BCCI on July 9, 2024. Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid at the helm, whose tenure ended with India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win.

It was BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who announced Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the new Team India head coach and Gambhir quoted his post on X and thanked Jay Shah for his kind words.
“Many thanks for your extremely kind words and constant support @JayShah bhai. Elated to be a part of this journey! The entire team together will strive for excellence and newer heights,” Gambhir posted.
Gambhir’s tenure will be three and a half years and will end in December 2027. Gambhir was previously the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise and helped them win the IPL 2024, their third IPL title. KKR’s first two IPL wins came with Gautam Gambhir as captain.
