Rahul Dravid's tenure as India head coach ends after T20 World Cup 2024.
Dravid, it is learned, has communicated to the BCCI his decision not to seek another tenure. On Monday, BCCI released an advertisement for the position of Indian team head coach and invited applications for the same with the deadline being May 27.
As per the ESPNCricinfo report, Gautam Gambhir has been contacted by the BCCI to gauge his interest in the job, and further discussions are expected after KKR completes its IPL 2024 campaign.
Gambhir, 42, has no experience of coaching at international or domestic level, but he has experience of being part of the coaching staff of two IPL franchises. He was the mentor at Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and 2023 - they qualified for the playoffs in both seasons.
Gambhir then joined KKR before the IPL 2024 season, where they will finish the league stage on top of the points table.
The Delhi-based former cricketer was part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup wins, playing match-winning knocks in both games. He also captained Delhi Capitals in two stints, while was the skipper of KKR from 2011-2017, winning the IPL in 2012 and 2014.
