The impact player rule has been widely discussed in the ongoing IPL 2024. Introduced in Indian Premier League this season, the rule allows each to make a substitution as per their needs once in their innings.

However, several current and former cricketers have shared displeasure with the role, saying that it limits the role of an all-rounder in the team. The argument was also that it is giving teams a chance to play with 8 batters, resulting in record scores being made in the tournament and even chased.

However, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah says the board has not received any feedback on it, while it is set to be reviewed after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. Shah said that the rule benefits, as two new Indian players who get a chance on the IPL stage.

"Impact player rule was brought in as a test case. On the bright side, it provides additional playing opportunities to two Indian players. Isn't it important that two Indian players get a chance? The game is also becoming more competitive. But still, if the players feel this is not all right, we will speak on it. However, no one has said anything about it yet. After the IPL and the World Cup, we will have a meeting and decide,” Shah told reporters at the BCCI office in Mumbai.

"After the World Cup, we will consult with the players, franchises, and broadcasters and decide about the future course. It's not a permanent rule, nor am I saying we will move past it," he added.

Jay Shah also confirmed that the revival of the Champions League T20 tournament has not been discussed with the ICC. This is contrary to claims made by Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins.

"The Cricket Victoria CEO has not spoken to me about this. No such discussions are taking place. I would have told you had I been a part of any talks," Shah said.

Jay Shah also left the reporters guessing when asked about his candidature as ICC chairman. It has been speculated that Shah might run for the ICC chief post as Greg Barclay's term ends later this year.

"Let me be here in BCCI. Let there be speculation. But let me be here (in the BCCI). Am I not doing a good job?" he asked.
