The upcoming IPL 2024 could well be Dhoni's last season in professional cricket.
During the IPL 2023 campaign, Dhoni struggled right through the tournament with a knee injury and speculations were rife that it could well be his last season.
However, Dhoni vowed to return in 2024 fitness-permitting after lifting the coveted trophy. In fact, he underwent surgery to treat his troubling knee soon after the triumphant campaign and has made a good recovery so far.
With just two weeks remaining for the IPL 2024, Dhoni on Monday (March 4) shared a post on social media, fueling speculation about his future.
Taking to Facebook, the CSK skipper wrote: "Can't wait for the new season and the new 'role'. Stay tuned!"
It's unclear whether the new season mentioned in his post is the IPL 2024 edition. Anyway, Dhoni left the fans guessing with 'new role' post and it went viral within minutes.
CSK will be playing four matches during the first phase of the IPL 2024 season, including the tournament opener against RCB at Chepauk on March 22.
The defending champions will face Gujarat Titans on March 26 at Chepauk before taking on Delhi Capitals in Vizag on March 31. CSK’s last match in the first phase is scheduled against SRH in Hyderabad on April 5.
