The change is supposedly being made with players opting to skip red-ball games to prep for IPL.
Currently, the BCCI pays Rs 15 lakh as match fees per Test, 6 lakh per ODI, and 3 lakh for T20 internationals.
The board opted to redraft the salary structure after wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan refused to play domestic cricket and instead chose to prepare for the IPL, which begins next month.
“Will he play IPL 2024?” Sunil Gavaskar speculates about Virat Kohli's comeback
“For example, if someone plays all Test series in a calendar year, he should be rewarded additionally, apart from the annual retainer contract. This is to ensure that players turn out for more red-ball cricket. This would be an additional perk for playing Test cricket,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
If the new remuneration model is approved, it will be implemented after this IPL season. An additional bonus will be given by BCCI if a player plays all Test series in a season.
Previously, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had warned centrally contracted and India 'A' cricketers about not participating in domestic cricket, stating that a decision to prioritize IPL over domestic cricket would have serious consequences.
