Veteran Bengal batter Manoj Tiwary on Saturday (February 10) called for the scrapping of Ranji Trophy from the Indian domestic cricket calendar, much to the shock of the fans.

Tiwary, who is leading Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, suggested that there are so many things going wrong in the premier first-class tournament and it shouldn’t take place from the next season onwards.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tiwary vented out his frustration but didn’t exactly mention the reason behind his radical suggestion.

“Ranji trophy should be scrapped off from the calendar from the next season onwards. So many things going wrong in the tournament. So many things need to looked into in order to save this prestigious tournament which has a rich history. It’s losing its charm and importance. Absolutely frustrated ???? #RanjiTrophy,” Tiwary tweeted.

In August last year, Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. However, the 38-year-old reversed his decision days later to give one more shot at clinching the elusive Ranji title.

The two-time champions Bengal made it to the Ranji final twice in the last three seasons. However, they lost to Saurashtra in the summit clash on both occasions.

"It was a proud moment for me to captain Bengal to the final last season. I want to give it one more try before leaving. Next year, there will not be any more U-turn. I want to give one more year to Bengal cricket," Tiwary had said in a press conference.
