Agarwal was deboarded from the plane and admitted to a private hospital in Agartala.
The Karnataka captain had the burning sensation in his mouth and throat after drinking from a bottle, which is suspected to have a poisonous substance. He was immediately deboarded from the plane and admitted to a private hospital in the Tripura capital.
Speaking to India Today, Karnataka team manager Ramesh said that Mayank Agarwal would land in Bengaluru in the afternoon. He also informed that the cricketer wouldn't be able to speak for the next 48 hours due to "ulcers and swelling".
When asked what happened to Mayank in the flight, Ramesh told India Today: "We were about to take off, and Mayank felt thirsty. So, he drank water kept behind the seat pocket in front of his seat. After a few minutes, he realised that his throat was itching, and he felt the urge to vomit. Consequently, he rushed to the washroom near the cockpit and informed the air hostess."
"The air hostess immediately rang the emergency bell and checked if there was any doctor available on the flight. Unfortunately, there was no doctor, so the pilot was informed, and a message was sent to the airport authority. Doctors came to see him, and they said, 'We can't provide first aid here; he needs to be hospitalised.' An ambulance arrived, and he was taken to the hospital," he added.
Mayank Agarwal was on his way to Surat for Karnataka's next Ranji Trophy match against Railways when he had to be de-boarded from a Delhi-bound Indigo flight in Agartala.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka skipper has lodged a police complaint, alleging foul play after he drank the 'poisonous' liquid on the flight.
Tripura state health secretary Kiran Gitte revealed that the police admitted his complaint and would probe as to what happened in the flight.
Ramesh also confirmed that Mayank Agarwal will not feature in Karnataka's next Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways, slated to get underway on February 2.
