Malik was accused of underperforming in a BPL 2024 match for Fortune Barishal earlier this week.
Earlier this week, Malik was accused of underperforming in a BPL 2024 match for Fortune Barishal. He bowled three no-balls in the only over he bowled and conceded 18 runs from it against Khulna Tigers. With the bat, the 41-year-old scored 5 runs from the 6 balls he faced in the death overs.
This performance by Malik led to fans questioning the cricketer’s intentions. Many felt that the no-balls were bowled deliberately, discreetly pointing towards fixing.
Days after the incident, Fortune Barishal has now terminated the contract of Shoaib Malik on the suspicion of "fixing", a Bangladesh-based journalist tweeted.
“Mizanur Rahman, the team owner of Fortune Barishal, has confirmed the news,” the tweet further read.
Shoaib Malik has played 35 Tests, 287 ODIs and 124 T20Is for Pakistan. His last appearance for Pakistan was in November 2021 in a T20I match against Bangladesh.
