Virat Kohli crowned ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year for record-extending fourth time

Kohli amassed 1377 runs in 24 ODI innings at an average of 72.47 last year.

India’s star batter Virat Kohli was on Thursday (January 25) named the ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023 for his stunning exploits in the 50-over format of the game.

Kohli pipped the likes of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Daryl Mitchell to take the award home for the record-extending fourth time. Earlier, he was sharing this honour with South African legend AB de Villiers, having bagged the award thrice each.

Virat Kohli enjoyed a sensational 2023 in ODIs, scoring 1377 runs in 24 innings at an average of 72.47 and a strike rate of 99.13, including six hundreds and eight half-centuries.

Kohli played a key role in India’s Asia Cup 2023 triumph, amassing 129 runs in three innings at an average of 64.50 and a strike rate of 114.15 with one century.

The 35-year-old carried on his brilliant form to the World Cup at home, where he aggregated a staggering 765 runs in 11 innings with three tons and six fifties to earn the Player-of-the-Tournament award.

Virat Kohli is the second Indian cricketer to win the ICC award for sustained brilliance in 2023. Just a day ago, swashbuckling batter Suryakumar Yadav was named the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year.
