Swashbuckling Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was on Wednesday (January 24) named the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year 2023 for his stunning exploits in the shortest format of the game.

He pipped the likes of Sikandar Raza, Alpesh Ramjani and Mark Chapman to take the award home for the second consecutive year.

Surya enjoyed a sensational 2023 in T20Is, scoring 733 runs in 17 innings at an average of 48.86 and a blistering strike rate of 155.95, including two hundreds and five half-centuries.

Suryakumar Yadav flourished despite the burden of captaincy, taking the reins of a young side towards the end of the year.

The right-hander slammed half-centuries against Australia (80 off 42 balls) and South Africa (56 from 36 balls), before scoring a century against the Proteas off just 56 balls in their final T20I of the year in Johannesburg.

Earlier, the ICC named Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the ICC T20I Team of the Year for 2023. The team included three more Indian players - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh.
