Both Shami and Pant have been out of action for some time now.
Shami, who topped the wicket-taking charts in the ICC World Cup 2023, with 24 scalps and a best bowling of 7/57, has been out due to knee and ankle issues. He missed the T20I series at home against Australia, the entire South Africa tour, and the home Afghanistan T20I series.
He was also not picked in the Indian squad for the first two Tests against England in the upcoming series that begins on January 25 in Hyderabad.
As per reports, Shami might leave for London to consult an expert and will be accompanied by NCA sports science head Nitin Patel. Shami and Patel were seen working together on the bowler's injury at the NCA in Bengaluru where it is understood, the decision to seek a specialist opinion in the UK was made.
This decision came after BCCI sent Suryakumar Yadav to Germany for an operation on his groin and the surgery happened successfully on January 17. However, sources have also stated that BCCI may also send Rishabh Pant to London soon if the wicketkeeper-batsman has not already been sent.
