Tendulkar was one of the pupils coached by Ramakant Achrekar who went on to play for India.
Achrekar was the founder of Kamath Memorial Cricket Club at Shivaji Park and coached many youngsters apart from Sachin Tendulkar. His other pupils, went onto play for India, included the likes of Vinod Kambli, Pravin Amre, Ajit Agarkar, Chandrakant Pandit, and Ramesh Powar.

In 1990, he was honored with the Dronacharya Award, recognizing his coaching excellence. Additionally, he was bestowed with the Padma Shri Award in 2010, one of India's highest civilian honors. In the same year, he was honored with the "Lifetime Achievement" award by Sports Illustrated magazine.
Sachin Tendulkar took to X and posted a quote from Guy Kawasaki, while fondly remembering his ‘Achrekar Sir’.
He posted: “If you have to put someone on a pedestal, put teachers. They are society’s heroes.” – Guy Kawasaki. My teacher was definitely my hero - the man who taught me so many lessons with love and discipline in equal parts. Remembering Achrekar Sir fondly on his death anniversary.”
