PCB chief Zaka Ashraf recently held discussions with Khalid Al Zarooni, the Vice Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board.
PCB chief Zaka Ashraf and ICC General Counsel Jonathan Hall were present during the signing at the ICC headquarters in Dubai.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is highly unlikely to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the marquee event. Notably, the Indian team didn’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, which was played in a hybrid model.
According to a report published in Cricketpakistan.com, Zaka Ashraf recently held discussions with Khalid Al Zarooni, the Vice Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board. While the Champions Trophy wasn’t specifically addressed during their meet-up, the UAE has expressed unwavering cooperation with Pakistan.
“Sources indicate that if India opts not to send its team, the possibility of relocating some Champions Trophy matches to the UAE can’t be ruled out. Nevertheless, the ICC would need to bear the additional expenses, and a modification to the tournament format may become necessary,” the report stated.
PCB insists that if a country refuses to send its team citing security reasons then the ICC should avoid unilateral decisions and conduct a thorough evaluation with an independent security agency’s consultation. The apex body has reportedly agreed to comply with the PCB’s demand.
