The Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajeev Shukla, hailed the board’s decision to retire legendary MS Dhoni's No. 7 jersey and lauded his significant contribution to Indian cricket.

BCCI officially retired former Indian skipper Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey on Friday, December 15, to honor the World Cup-winning captain. Dhoni has now joined the iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as the second Indian player to have their jersey retired by the BCCI.

Tendulkar's No. 10 jersey was retired by the BCCI in 2017. Reacting to the move, Shukla welcomed the decision and said that Dhoni’s jersey number can’t be diluted.

Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by ANI: “The decision of BCCI is an honour for MS Dhoni because of his contribution to Indian cricket. He has immensely contributed to world cricket and Indian cricket. This is a good decision. No.7, which was associated with him, cannot be diluted...someone else who could have had that number.”

Dhoni made a lasting impact on the cricketing world in his remarkable 15-year career. He is the only captain who has won all ICC trophies—the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy. He also won five IPL titles as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper.

Notably, Dhoni played 90 Test matches for India in his career, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. In 350 ODIs, he scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. He played 98 T20Is for India, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60 and a strike rate of 126.13.
