PCB has appointed Salman Butt as a consultant member to chief selector Wahab Riaz.
Ramiz was also not pleased by the appointment of Kamran Akmal, who is a part of the panel with Rao Iftikhar Anjum being the third member.
On Friday (December 1), the PCB issued a media release, confirming the appointment of the three members and mentioning that they "have assumed their responsibilities in the selection panel with immediate effect".
“Their first assignment as consultant members to the chief selector includes the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, set to commence on 12 January 2024 following the conclusion of the Test tour to Australia,” the release added.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Ramiz vented out his frustration, saying: “It is insane to have a selection committee consisting of a member whose decision can be termed as a display of filial affection or non-affection and another who was locked up for match fixing.”
Over the years, Ramiz Raja has maintained his zero-tolerance policy against the tainted cricketers. He was also very vocal against Mohammad Amir's return to international cricket in 2016.
"You ask me, I would say these tainted cricketers should open their grocery shops. I have no doubt that giving concessions to big names also damages Pakistan cricket," Ramiz had said in the past.
Notably, Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were involved in a spot-fixing scandal in 2010. Subsequently, Butt was slapped with a 10-year ban by the ICC and he also completed his prison sentence in the UK. Amir, who was a teenager at the time, was also handed a five-year ban from the sport.
In the past, PCB also banned Kamran Akmal’s brother Umar for failing to report a corruption approach.
