One of the greatest cricketers produced by Zimbabwe, Heath Streak was shocked to hear the news of his demise while being at his house. Streak has been battling cancer and is currently undergoing treatment for the same.

However, on August 23, 2023, news of his untimely demise spread like wildfire on social media after his former colleague Henry Olonga announced on social media about Streak’s death. And condolences and reactions poured in on various platforms.

However, a few hours later, Olonga had to retract his statement and confirm that Streak was alive and doing well sharing a WhatsApp chat with the former Zimbabwe captain.

And now Streak himself said that he is in ‘good health and recovering from cancer’.

People should be a bit more careful before spreading such rumors. I am better now and recovering from cancer,” a rather disappointed Streak told Sportstar.

“Rumours of Heath Streak’s demise greatly exaggerated,” Henry Olonga shares WhatsApp chat with Zimbabwe legend

I am at home and obviously there’s still a bit of strain because of the treatment. But otherwise I am fine. Suddenly I get to know that people have started talking about my death, as someone shared it on social media. But that was not all correct. I am recovering and feeling a lot better,” Streak added.

Streak played 65 Tests and 189 ODIs for Zimbabwe from 1993-2005. He finished his career with 216 Test and 239 ODI wickets and also scored one Test century to go with 11 half-centuries and hit 13 ODI fifties as well.

Streak was handed an eight-year ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2021 for breaching the anti-corruption code in 2018.

Since retirement from the game, Streak turned to coaching and was part of various teams including Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and even in the Indian Premier League.
