His comment came in the wake of Indian team management’s decision to hand debut caps to quite a few players on the recent tour of West Indies. The likes of Mukesh Kumar, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma made their India debuts during the Caribbean tour.
While Mukesh received Test, ODI and T20I caps on the same tour, Jaiswal made his maiden appearance in the longest and shortest formats. On the other hand, Varma featured in all five T20Is.
The same trend continued in the first T20I against Ireland in Dublin on Friday (August 18) as India handed debut caps to Rinku Singh and Prasidh Krishna.
"The Indian cap has become very easy to get. We should watch that. I think good players should get a chance. There are so many teams in T10, T20, 50-over or etc. I think most players are getting a chance to play for the country," Atul Wassan told India.com.
The first T20I against Ireland also marked Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback to international cricket after a gap of 11 months. The ace pacer recently recovered from a back surgery
Commenting on Bumrah, Wassan said: "I think the back injury is such that the effort he will put in will be seen. If he is holding himself back, then he is increasing his career. If he gets the same intensity and gets injured again, then whatever he achieved with this action, this injury was bound to happen."
Atul Wassan also believes that Bumrah won’t be able to hit his peak again. "If you reform yourself, you will be able to play better. I want him to come back, but I don't think that he will get to his peak as we have seen him," he stated.
