Australia skipper Pat Cummins may not travel to India for an ODI series next month, having featured in the fifth Ashes Test against England at The Oval with a suspected broken wrist.

The Aussies are slated to play three ODIs in India from September 22 to September 27. The 50-over series is being seen as ideal preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup, slated to be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

Cricket Australia is yet to disclose the details of Cummins’ injured left wrist. However, “two sources with knowledge of the matter but not authorised to speak publicly say medical staff have not ruled out a possible fracture,” according to the ‘Sydney Morning Herald’.

Cummins had injured his wrist on the opening day of the final Ashes Test and played the remainder of the Test with a heavily-strapped wrist.

While the injury did not appear to affect Cummins’ bowling, he certainly looked uncomfortable while batting.

CA is likely to announce the squads for Australia’s upcoming white-ball assignments next week. Before travelling to India, the Men in Yellow will play three T20Is and five ODIs in South Africa from August 30 to September 17.

Mitchell Marsh is likely to lead Australia in Cummins’ absence. The all-rounder is also in the reckoning to be named Australia’s T20I skipper.
