Virender Sehwag refutes rumors of him being asked to become BCCI chief selector

BCCI is without a chief of selection committee after Chetan Sharma was sacked.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has rubbished reports that he was approached for the chief selector’s post by the BCCI.

“No,” Sehwag replied when Times of India asked him about any such offer being made.

The BCCI has been without a chief selector since Chetan Sharma lost his job in February following a sting operation, in which he was seen talking about confidential information related to the Indian players and team selection.

Since then, SS Das has been the interim chief selector with S Sharath (south), Subroto Banerjee (central), and Salil Ankola (west) as other members of the panel.

The BCCI on Thursday put out an advertisement on its website for the position of member of the men’s selection committee. The selected candidate is likely to be the new chief selector of the committee.

The criteria for the same is that the candidate should have a) played seven Tests or b) 30 first-class matches, or c) 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches. And should’ve retired from the game at least five years previously.

The last date to apply for the post is June 30.
