Former India batter Ambati Rayudu is likely to enter politics as he reportedly plans to contest Lok Sabha elections, TOI reported on Saturday (June 17).

According to the report, Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wants Rayudu to contest in the next polls but it is yet to decide whether he will be fielded in assembly or Lok Sabha Polls.

As per the sources, quoted in the report, the senior politicians in the party think Rayudu should either contest from Ponnur or Guntur West segments for assembly polls and he should pick Machilipatnam for Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier, Rayudu had expressed his admiration for Jagan, saying: “CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is a big inspiration for youngsters entering politics. He is spearheading development in all the regions instead of concentrating on one area.”

Notably, Ambati Rayudu played a key role in Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2023 triumph last month. Before winning the title with CSK, the 37-year-old had said that this will be his last IPL season as he called time on his professional cricket career in India.

However, Rayudu will be seen in action on the field in USA’s Major League Cricket. He was recently signed by CSK’s sister franchise Texas Super Kings for the upcoming MLC.

Ambati Rayudu represented India in 55 ODIs, scoring 1694 runs at an average of 47.06 with three centuries and 10 fifties. He also featured in 6 T20Is and managed to aggregate only 42 runs.

In IPL, Rayudu featured in 204 games for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. He amassed 4348 runs with one century and 22 fifties in the cash-rich league.
