Pakistan set to co-host Asia Cup 2023 with Sri Lanka; India to play all games in island nation: Report

The continental event will be held in September, divided into two legs.

The BCCI and PCB are in conflict over the staging of the Asia Cup 2023. While Pakistan have the hosting rights, the Indian board is not willing to send its team to the neighbouring country because of security reasons.

Recently, PCB proposed a ‘Hybrid Model’ to host the tournament. In such a model, India would play their matches in UAE while Pakistan would play their matches at home.

While the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to take a final call, a report published in RevSportz suggests that the continental event will be held in September, divided into two legs.

According to the report, the first leg will take place in Pakistan, with four matches scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium – Pakistan versus Nepal, Afghanistan versus Sri Lanka, Bangladesh versus Afghanistan and Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh.

The second leg, comprising of nine matches, will be played in Sri Lanka with Galle and Kandy likely to be the venues.

India will play all their matches in Sri Lanka whereas Pakistan will have only one game on their turf, the report claimed.

As per the report, the administrators from various Asian countries were present in London during the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia to discuss the fate of the Asia Cup 2023.

“A reliable source close to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) confirmed that they were on the verge of reaching a resolution,” RevSportz reported.

The Asian Cricket Council is expected to make an official announcement on Tuesday (June 13).
