Widely regarded as one of the best batters of the modern era, Virat Kohli has said that breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds would be an “emotional moment” for him.

When Tendulkar ended his career with 49 ODI hundreds, Kohli already has 46 tons to his name in the 50-over format of the game.

Kohli, who needs four more ODI centuries to surpass the tally of Tendulkar, was about his thoughts on reaching that milestone in an episode of PUMA’s Let There Be Sport documentary series.

In reply, Virat said: “It will be a very emotional moment for me.”

The conversation also included how he approached the players who didn’t have the same thought process as his when he was the captain.

To which, Kohli said he learnt from MS Dhoni and other great captains that you can’t make everyone happy all the time.

“One thing I learnt from MS and other people that I have seen lead, also you cannot make everyone happy all the time. This is the absolute truth and why that happens is because certain individuals will not buy to the intensity of what you think immediately. So they tried to find their own comfortable ways, which you have to ignore because the vision is priority," he remarked.

Virat Kohli captained the Indian team with enormous success. He led the country in 213 matches across formats and won 135 of them.

In the docu-series, Kohli also talked about his childhood memories of playing cricket with older boys and highlighted the importance of sports.

“Sports teaches you some values of life, discipline and planning. It opens up your side, making you a productive person. No matter which profession you are in, the value of playing sport is immense.

“Don’t make them [students] just play sports, teach them. It is important to teach them small details of what it means to play a sport,” he said.
