Virat Kohli needs 26 more hundreds to break Sachin Tendulkar's record of most international tons.
Virat Kohli has been touted by many to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries, but former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri said that it is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.
Shastri admitted that Kohli is extremely fit and can play cricket for 5–6 years, but he is not sure whether the dashing right-hander would be able to overtake Tendulkar’s incredible record in international cricket.
Notably, the former Indian skipper has 75 international hundreds to his name to date, and given his recent form following a lean patch, many claimed that Kohli is the one who can score 25 more tons to break Tendulkar’s record, but Shastri is not confident about that.
Ravi Shastri said in a conversation with SportsYaari: “How many players have scored 100 hundreds? Just one. So, if you are saying that he can cross that mark, it's a big thing. He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He is very fit. And when a player of that class starts scoring centuries then it follows one after the other. Probably in a stretch of 15 matches, there will be seven hundreds.”
Shastri signed off by saying, “Kohli can still easily play cricket for 5-6 years because he is fit. But it is not easy by any stretch of imagination that is why only one guy has done it. But the fact that you are telling me he might reach there is a big thing.”
