Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that it might take Rishabh Pant up to two years to play for India again.

Ganguly, who is set to return as Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, revealed the details in an interview with news agency PTI.

Ganguly acknowledged that it would be tough to fill the void left by Pant in the Delhi team for the upcoming IPL season and the franchise has not finalised his replacement as yet.

Notably, Rishabh was involved in a horrific car accident in December 2022. Since then, he has undergone surgeries for multiple injuries.

"I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year's time or may be in a couple of years' time, he will be back playing for India," Ganguly stated.

The Capitals are yet to name Rishabh Pant's replacement and Ganguly is still unsure about who is better between young turk Abhishek Porel and domestic veteran Sheldon Jackson.

"We still need a bit of time to figure out. The next camp starts before IPL," he said.

With Pant’s unavailability, Delhi Capitals are also on the lookout for a captain and it is possible that Australian opener David Warner might be handed the job due to his experience.

Recently, DC organized a three-day camp in Kolkata where the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ishant Sharma, Chetan Sakariya, Manish Pandey participated along with other domestic players.

"The IPL is still a month away and the season has just started. It is difficult to get all the players together for the amount of cricket they play. There are four or five who are playing Irani Trophy. Sarfaraz has an injured finger and it's not a broken finger. He should be okay for the IPL," Ganguly concluded.
