India is currently the second ranked Test team in the world and no.1 in ODIs and T20Is.
This led to lots of noise on social media about the Rohit Sharma-led side’s amazing achievement which came after the first Test against Australia of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 Test series.
However, just hours after the achievement was celebrated, it was found that it was all due to a glitch on the ICC website that led to India becoming the no.1 ranked Test team and the issue was rectified and Australia once again claimed the top spot.
The ICC on February 16, 2023, revealed that Australia remains the no.1 ranked Test team after the latest update following the conclusion of Zimbabwe’s two-match series against West Indies.

West Indies claimed the series 1-0 after winning the second Test in Bulawayo by an innings and four runs, a result that left them at eighth in the Test team rankings.
ICC also apologized for the glitch that made the Indian team the no.1 ranked Test team.
They posted on their website: “The ICC acknowledges, for a short period of time on February 15, 2023 that, due to a technical error, India were erroneously displayed as the No.1 Test team on the ICC website. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Australia will head into the second Test against India in Delhi, starting on Friday, February 17, as the No.1-ranked team with 126 rating points, 11 above India’s 115.
India won the first Test in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs and is trying to book a spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. Australia, who also have one foot in the final, will look to confirm their spot for the summit clash which will be played in the Oval from June 7-11.
