Australian all-rounder Dan Christian is all set to retire from professional cricket after the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season.

“Yesterday at training I told by Sydney Sixers teammates that I’ll be retiring from playing at the end of the BBL season," Christian confirmed his decision through a tweet on Saturday (January 21).

The 39-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best T20 players produced by Australia. He has aggregated 5809 runs and claimed 280 wickets from 405 T20s for 18 different teams.

Sixers have two league matches left and are guaranteed two shots at reaching the BBL final, having finished in the top two in the ongoing season.

“Sydney Smash tonight, followed by our last round game against the Hurricanes, and then the finals," he added.

Dan Christian was instrumental in Melbourne Renegades’ only title win in 2019. With Sixers, he clinched the 2020-21 title.

“Hopefully we can go all the way again this season, but regardless, it’s been a great run. I’ve achieved things and made some memories that I could only have dreamt of as a kid," Christian said.

“I’m looking forward to now having the time to catch up with you all and not having to use the excuse ‘sorry, I’ve got cricket’," he concluded.

Dan Christian has also represented Australia in 23 T20Is and 20 ODIs, scoring 391 runs and taking 33 wickets across the two formats.
