Warner was playing for Sydney Thunder, while Wade captains Hobart Hurricanes.
The incident happened when Thunder captain Chris Green got into a verbal spat with Wade. Green had finished his over before the drinks break and Hurricane’s Tim David was seen putting his hand on the Thunder rival and appearing to push him away from Wade as the two engaged in an apparent war of words.
Warner was nearby when this happened and intervened as Green and Wade went after each other. Then Wade approached Warner after which the Australian opener shoved his national teammate. Wade appeared taken aback by the physical altercation and so, too, did the commentators.
“That was inappropriate. It’s unsavory. You can’t have a contact like that. Whether they were half joking, I don’t know. The body language suggested not,” said Fox Cricket commentator Kerry O’Keeffe.
Green and Wade spoke together on Channel Seven after the match and played down their altercation.
“It’s all good. We knew we were under par on a really good wicket and we’re both fierce competitors on the field. [I was] trying to create something out of nothing. There’s no issue. If you want to keep digging, there’s nothing there. We both play with feeling on the field. I’ve got no issues with him personally,” Green said.
Wade added: “I’m alright. I couldn’t hit him [for runs while batting], that was more my frustration.”
