Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has once again hogged the headlines for his unruly behaviour on the field.

During Match 7 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023 between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders, Shakib got involved into yet another on-field spat with the umpires.

On this occasion, however, Shakib lost his cool before a ball being bowled in the second innings of the match.

Anamul Haque Bijoy and Chaturanga De Silva came out to open the innings for Barishal. Left-handed De Silva was set to take the strike as Rangpur had left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan to begin the proceedings.

However, the Riders brought Mahedi Hasan seeing a left-hander taking strike. Subsequently, Barishal openers exchanged positions in order to get the match-up in their favour. Rangpur Riders were also keen to have a positive match-up and again gave the ball to Rakibul.

While Shakib was initially signalling his batters from the boundary ropes, he eventually entered the field as he wanted Anamul to be on strike for the first delivery.

However, the on-field umpires didn’t allow that and Shakib Al Hasan was seen having an animated chat with the officials.

“According to the rules, after it is determined which bowler will bowl, the batting side determines who will take strike,” Barishal manager Sazzad Ahmed Shipon said in a media release.

“In this case, seeing Sheikh Mahedi come in to bowl, Shakib wanted Anamul Haque Bijoy on strike instead of Chaturanga but the umpire wasn’t allowing it. Shakib entered the field to discuss it,” the manager further added.

As it turned out, Rakibul Hasan bowled the first over for Riders took while De Silva played the first ball for Barishal.
