Aaryavir was the 15th member on the team sheet for Delhi's clash against Bihar on December 6.
79 boys were shortlisted but it was Aaryavir’s name that caught everyone’s attention. He was also named in the truncated list and eventually made it to the squad, led by Arnav S Bugga, unveiled on November 25.
In Delhi’s opening match against Hyderabad, Aaryavir wasn’t part of the 15 announced for the fixture but he was the 15th member on the team sheet for the clash against Bihar on Tuesday (December 6).
Akin to his father, the 15-year-old Aaryavir is a batter but unlike the former India opener, he isn’t quite a swashbuckler.
“Not at all. He is not that type of batter. His footwork is very good and is a good student of the game,” Akash Malhotra, DDCA junior selection committee chairperson, told cricketnext.com.
Delhi’s U-16 probables played trial fixtures before the final squad was picked and Aaryavir appeared in those games. He may not have scored plenty of runs in the trial matches but the selectors were impressed with his footwork and other aspects of batting.
“You know he was middling the ball really well. Footwork was correct and he played a lot in the V. That really impressed us,” said Akash.
Delhi U-16 will face Gujarat in their next match on December 11.
