Australia and England to play three ODIs starting Thursday in Adelaide.
Australia and England are set to face each other in a three-match ODI series just three days after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The ODI series will get underway at the Adelaide Oval on November 17, with the second and final ODIs set to be played on November 19 and 22, respectively.
While the Australian players got enough time to rest after failing to make it to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, the England team won the coveted trophy only three days earlier, on November 13, after thrashing Pakistan by five wickets in the final at the MCG.
Ahead of the ODI series, England captain Jos Buttler admitted that it is challenging to take the field after only a few days' rest, and perhaps his players will struggle to fire up against Australia.
As reported by Reuters, Jos Buttler told reporters ahead of the first ODI: “It's going to be a challenge. There's no point saying all the right things, that we’ll be at our best.”
Meanwhile, Sam Billings is excited to play against Australia in the ODI series, saying it is always fun to take the field against the Kangaroos.
He said, “We're great mates with a lot of those Aussie guys, but when it comes onto the pitch, you want to beat them. It’s always a great rivalry and always great games, regardless of the format. We’re really looking forward to it.”
On the other hand, Australia's new ODI captain Pat Cummins has expected a tough fight from England in the ODI series. Cummins told reporters, “They'll be strong no doubt, even if a bit tired.”
He signed off by saying, “We feel like we probably didn't play as well as we know we can (at the World Cup) so here's an opportunity straight away to play against the best. It's great.”
