Television visuals showed Starc pointing out to the non-striker's end as he made his way back in his run-up in the 5th over of the match. Mitchell Starc and Jos Buttler had an on-field chat with Australian media confirming that it was a warning from the Australian fast bowler to the England captain.
Buttler responded to Starc, saying he didn't think he was leaving the crease early at the non-striker's end. A Twitter user shared photos showing that Buttler wasn’t leaving his crease early.
Jos Buttler was unbeaten on 25 from 22 balls in the 7th over when rain interrupted play in Canberra.

Buttler doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to leaving the crease at the non-striker's end. He was first dismissed in this fashion in 2014 during an ODI against Sri Lanka in Edgbaston when Sachithra Senanayake ran him out at the non-striker’s end when he left the crease early.
Sri Lanka captain in that match Angelo Mathews was asked by umpires if he wanted to withdraw his appeal, but he didn’t and Buttler walked back to the pavilion.
Then again in IPL 2019, Buttler, then playing for Rajasthan Royals, was run out by Punjab Kings’ R Ashwin in the same manner in a match in Jaipur, which led to a huge uproar when Ashwin, then captain of his team didn’t take back the appeal.
