Amid the speculations that he might take charge as the next ICC chairman, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Thursday (September 22) said it is something that is not in his hands.

Earlier this year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board had approved the process to elect the next chairman of the parent body in November.

It was said that the election will be decided by a simple majority and the tenure of the chairman will be for a two-year period between December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2024.

Currently, Greg Barclay is holding the position and his term is due to end in November this year.

"ICC chairmanship is not in my hands," Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

Earlier, two-thirds majority was required to be elected as the chairman. As per the latest recommendations, the contestant claiming 51 per cent votes will be declared as the winner.

In a 16-member board, the candidate needs just nine votes from the directors to get elected.

During the recently held Asia Cup 2022, Team India were knocked out of the tournament in the Super-4 round. The BCCI chief acknowledged that not being able to do well in big tournaments is a matter of concern for the Men in Blue.

"Rohit Sharma has a winning percentage of almost 80. India has lost the last three-four matches but before that... He has led in 35-40 matches and lost just five or six. I am sure Rohit and Rahul Dravid will be concerned about the team and everything, and they will improve.

"I am not worried about one or two losses, but yes, we have not done well in big tournaments. We will talk about that..

"The team will leave (for the T20 World Cup in Australia) two to three weeks, will get time to acclimatise and play practice matches."

Commenting on Virat Kohli's much-awaited 71st international century in the Asia Cup, Ganguly said: "It's very good news that Virat has done well in the Asia Cup, and hopefully, he will continue in that vein."
