Team India might have to deal with a massive blow as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to miss the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, slated to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

According to a PTI report, Jadeja will undergo a major knee surgery which is expected to keep him out of action for an indefinite period of time.

Jadeja on Friday (September 2) got ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 with a knee injury, having played the first two games against Pakistan and Hong Kong. He provides the team a much-needed balance with his all-round abilities.

"Jadeja's right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA's medical team, one can't put a timeline on his imminent international comeback," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

It couldn't be ascertained right away if it's a case of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), recovery from which can take a good six months. However, the report suggests that Jadeja will be out of action for at least three months.

As per the report, the knee injury is troubling Jadeja for a while now and has transformed himself into a batting all-rounder across formats in the last one year. During bowling, it is believed that the pounding that his right knee takes while landing of his front foot has had its impact.

Ravindra Jadeja has played 60 Tests, 171 ODIs, and 64 T20Is so far, scoring 5427 runs and claiming 482 wickets across formats.

It will take a considerable amount of time and a thorough rehabilitation programme before he can return to action.
