Saurashtra batter Sheldon Jackson has expressed his disappointment after not getting picked in the India ‘A’ squad for the upcoming four-day matches against New Zealand ‘A’ at home.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Wednesday (August 24) named India ‘A’ squad for the three four-day matches against New Zealand ‘A’. The 16-member squad features some of the top performers in India’s domestic circuit, including Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, KS Bharat, Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, among others.

However, Jackson failed to make the cut despite piling up big runs in the Ranji Trophy for the last few seasons.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “I have a right to believe and dream that if i have performed for 3 continuous season, i may get picked on the basis of my performances not age, tired of hearing this that im a good player and performer but im old, im 35 not 75.”

Sheldon Jackson had played a key role in Saurashtra's maiden Ranji Trophy triumph in 2019. The right-hander aggregated 809 runs in the 2019-20 Ranji season while he made 856 runs in the 2018-19 edition of the first-class competition.

While the Ranji Trophy couldn’t be held last season due to COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson amassed 313 runs at an average of 78.25 from five innings this year.

Overall, Sheldon Jackson has featured in 79 First-Class matches, scoring 5947 runs at 50.39 with 19 tons and 31 fifties.
