Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi recently made a bold remark when he was asked about Virat Kohli’s future.

Even though Kohli is not in the best of form lately, there’s no doubt about his ability as a player. The former Indian skipper has etched his name in almost every record book related to batting and once he regains his form, it’s fair to say that he’ll be difficult to stop.

But it has been more than 1000 days since the right-hander has smashed a ton and the talk around Kohli’s form is just increasing day by day. He scored his last hundred in November 2019 in a Test match against Bangladesh. In recent times, he has been failing consistently and is struggling to hit a half-century as well.

Things have turned this much worse for him that even his place in the side is getting questioned and is garnering a lot of criticism for blocking the way for youngsters. Kohli has been rested since the England tour and will return to the Indian set-up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.

Many have backed the former Indian captain to come out good in the multi-nation tournament but if the right-hander fails to perform and with Indian bench strength being strong, it’s fair to say that his place will be under scrutiny and he might even get dropped.

Afridi, who held the Q/A session on his Twitter account, feels that Kohli’s future lies in his own hands. Afridi was asked by a fan about the same and he replied: “It’s in his own hands.”

In another query, a fan asked Afridi about his views on Kohli not scoring a century for more than 1000 days. Replying to the same, the former Pakistan skipper said: “Bare players ka mushkil waqt me hi pata chalta hai (Only tough times can unearth the big players).

With Kohli returning after a break and conditions favouring batters in UAE, it is expected that the right-hander will make a comeback and regain his form.
