Ramdin played 284 matches for West Indies while Simmons represented the country in 144 games.
Ramdin’s last appearance for West Indies came in a T20I match in December 2019. However, the 37-year-old will continue to take part in franchise cricket.
"It is with great pleasure that I announce my retirement from international cricket. The past 14 years have been a dream come true. I fulfilled my childhood dreams by playing cricket for Trinidad and Tobago, and the West Indies," wrote Ramdin on his Instagram account.
"My career afforded me the opportunity to see the world, make friends from different cultures and still be able to appreciate where I came from," he added.
Ramdin failed to attract a bidder for the upcoming edition of the CPL, despite having represented Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Trinbago Knight Riders from 2013 to 2021.
Denesh Ramdin turned up for the West Indies in 74 Tests, 139 ODIs and 71 T20Is. He was part of the national team that won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. He also captained West Indies in a total of 17 matches – 13 Tests, 3 T20Is and 1 ODI.
Meanwhile, West Indies batter Lendl Simmons also announced his retirement from international cricket on the same day.
Simmons’ Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) confirmed his decision with a congratulatory post on Twitter.
“Congratulations on a terrific international career, @54simmo. He retires from @windiescricket with 3763 runs across all three formats with an ODI highest score of 122 vs Bangladesh. Happy second innings, Simmo,” TKR tweeted.
Lendl Simmons represented West Indies in 8 Tests, 68 ODIs and 68 T20Is. He played a key role in the team’s T20 World Cup 2016 triumph.
