Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik on Friday (15th July) said that making a comeback in the national team at the age of 35 was not easy for him.

Karthik’s career has been a roller coaster ride. The senior batter made his comeback in the Indian colours after almost 3 years. Having last played for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, he found himself on the sidelines.

However, 2022 brought great luck to Karthik and changed his fortunes. He was a revelation in the IPL 2022, and his staggering performances were the reason behind him being recalled to the Indian squad for the home T20I series against South Africa.

He scored 330 runs at an incredible strike rate of 183.33 in the IPL and after that has made his presence felt in the Indian team. He played many cameos for his side and also smashed his maiden T20I half-century after his comeback.

Karthik seems to be in the plans of the team management for the T20 World Cup 2022 as he has been a regular feature in the playing XI since his comeback. He also has been named in the squad for the series against West Indies, starting later this month.

Speaking during the launch of Evocus (Black Alkaline water), Dinesh Karthik said that it was very difficult for him to make a comeback at the age of 35. He said that he believed in himself and he’s happy that his hard work paid off.

“Making a comeback when you are 35-plus was never going to be easy. I am thankful to everyone who helped me during that phase. I quietly believed in myself and did the hard yards before the IPL, and I am happy things worked well,” Dinesh Karthik said.

Karthik agreed that performing well for RCB helped him in his comeback. He said that he’s enjoying his journey which has different challenges.

“The fact that I did so well for RCB has helped me achieve a few important things. It is a journey and I am really enjoying it. With every new day, there is a different challenge. Some challenges you overcome, and some challenges are harder so it has been interesting so far,” he said.
