West Indies’ swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle has withdrawn from the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2022) to take part in the inaugural edition of the '6ixty', a 10-over per side tournament in August.

The '6ixty' will be played from August 24-28, in Saint Kitts and Nevis, while the CPL 2022 begins on August 29 and will end on September 29.

Notably, Gayle is the brand ambassador of the '6ixty' and the explosive batter is excited to play in the shorter format tournament, so he decided to pull out of the CPL 2022.

It is being said that the West Indies players will be available for the '6ixty' after the conclusion of the ODI series against New Zealand on August 21.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Chris Gayle said in a media statement: “I am going for the shorter format this year. I am genuinely excited about the current innovations in the 6ixty and seeing how they play out. In particular, I am looking forward to the mystery team ball and hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls to unlock the third powerplay over.”

Notably, Gayle also missed CPL 2020 for some personal reasons. However, he returned in the last season and helped St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots win the CPL 2021 title.

Gayle had also opted out of the IPL 2022 after leaving the previous season midway due to bio-bubble fatigue before withdrawing from the CPL 2022. He was last seen in action for the Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2022) in February this year.
