New Zealand have picked former Netherlands all-rounder Michael Rippon in their 15-man T20I squad for the tour of Europe in July and August.

Cape Town native Rippon became eligible to play for New Zealand, having moved to the country in 2013. Earlier this year, he featured in the three-match ODI series against the BlackCaps while playing for Netherlands.

ICC’s eligibility rules allow players to represent an Associate nation while still remaining available for a Full Member nation. However, they cannot play for an Associate for three years once listed for a Full Member (Test) nation.

During the European tour, the Kiwis will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Ireland, two T20Is and an ODI against Scotland, as well as two T20Is against the Netherlands.

Tom Latham will lead New Zealand’s ODI squad against Ireland from July 10-15 before Mitchell Santner takes charge of the side.

Shane Jurgensen will lead the coaching team for the Ireland leg of the tour with support from Luke Ronchi and former England international Luke Wright, allowing regular head coach Gary Stead a short break.

Star players such as Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Devon Conway won’t be part of the white-ball tours as they will return home following the England Test series.
