Former cricketers Ian Bishop, Irfan Pathan and Parthiv Patel on Wednesday (15th June) expressed their delight after Rahul Tripathi earned his maiden India call-up for Ireland T20I series.

Indian team is all set to face Ireland in the two-match T20I series, which will kick start on 26th June followed by the second match to be played on 28th. Both the games will take place at The Village in Dublin.

BCCI on Wednesday announced the squad for the two-match series. The 17-member squad will be led by Hardik Pandya with Bhuvneshwar Kumar being his deputy. It also saw Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson returning and finally, there was some light for Tripathi at the end of the long tunnel as he received his maiden call-up.

Tripathi has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite scoring over 400 runs in the IPL 15 he was not selected in the squad for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa and BCCI received a lot of flak for it.

However, his name being included in the Indian squad pleased many including Bishop, Pathan and Parthiv. They congratulated the batter and said that the right-hander deserved it.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Bishop wrote: “So Happy for Rahul Tripathi man. Well deserved. Hope Samson makes the best use of this outing. Something special about his batting.”

Pathan wrote“So happy to see Rahul Tripathi’s name in the Indian team. Congratulations buddy.”

Parthiv wrote: “So good to see Rahul Tripathi’s name in the Indian squadwell deserved.”
