Akmal claimed that Arthur spoiled his career.
Former Pakistan team coach Mickey Arthur on Tuesday (14th June) reacted to the comments made by Umar Akmal during an interview.
Ever since making his debut for Pakistan in 2009, Akmal has somehow found himself at the receiving end of many controversies. He was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for three years after he didn’t report spot-fixing offers made to him during the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In the recent interview, Akmal, who last played for Pakistan in October 2019, targeted veteran coach Arthur, who coached Pakistan from 2016 to 2019. He said that the former coach of the team spoiled his career as he had personal issues with him.
Reacting to the allegations made by Akmal, Arthur lashed out at the Pakistan cricketer and asked him to have a look in the mirror. The coach responded to the Tweet posted by journalist Aalia Rasheed.
"Take a look in the mirror Umar!” Mickey Arthur Tweeted.
Notably, after his tenure as the head coach of Pakistan ended in 2019, Arthur has also been very vocal about his relationship with Akmal. He once said that the right-hander was quite arrogant and he would be very surprised if the national side picks him in the team again.
After serving the ban by PCB, Akmal was allowed to return to first-class cricket. He so far has played 121 ODIs and 84 T20Is for Pakistan, amassing 3194 and 1690 runs respectively. He has also featured in 16 Tests for Pakistan, in which he managed 1003 runs.
