BCCI increased the pensions of retired cricketers, umpires and other officials.
Kaif said that the move means a lot to the ex-cricketers, who gave their all while playing when there was no money and helped take the game forward by citing his father's example.
Kaif's father Tarif, born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), played 60 first-class games for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket.
As per the BCCI’s press release, those who were getting the pension of INR 15,000 will now get INR 30,000 per month while pensioners receiving INR 22,500 will now receive INR 45,000.
Similarly, those getting INR 30,000 currently will receive INR 52,500, INR 37,500 will receive INR 60,000, and INR 50,000 will receive INR 70,000. The increased pension per month will come into effect from June 1, 2022.
Kaif took to Twitter and wrote, "Thanks BCCI, this means a lot to retired players. My father, Mohammad Tarif, is always very happy when he gets his pension. Money gives security, recognition makes you proud.
My father played 60 first class games. Scored close to 3000 runs, hit 5 hundreds. His generation helped the game grow when there was no money. By remembering their contribution, BCCI has shown a big heart.”
While announcing the same, the BCCI president in a release mentioned that it is very important for the board to maintain their financial well-being as they are its lifeline.
"It is extremely important that the financial well-being of our former cricketers is taken care of. The players remain the lifeline and as a Board, it is our duty to be by their side once their playing days are over. The umpires have been unsung heroes and the BCCI truly values their contribution," Ganguly had said.
