Gambhir and Harbhajan are associated with rival political parties- BJP and AAP respectively.
Gambhir also took a subtle jibe at Harbhajan’s political start, after he was nominated for Rajya Sabha by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Punjab and was elected unopposed to the upper house of Parliament.
Gambhir, who himself is a Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) MP from Delhi, had defeated AAP’s Atishi Marlena in the 2019 general elections winning from East Delhi by 695,109 votes.
Since then he has worked hard for the people of East Delhi, installing air purifiers to combat pollution, and installing CCTV cameras to tackle the issue of women's safety amongst other things.
Recently, Gambhir also revealed why he works in the IPL, currently as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise.
“Why I commentate in IPL or work in it is because I spend INR 25 lakh every month to feed 5000 people. This translates to roughly Rs. 2.75 crore per year. I've also spent INR 25 lakh to build a library. I spend all of this money from my own pocket and not from the MPLAD fund. The MPLAD fund doesn't run my kitchen or other things that I do. I don't have a tree in my house from where I can pluck money either," Gambhir said during a media conference.
“Only because I work, am I able to feed those 5000 people or establish that library. I have no shame in saying that I do commentary and work in the IPL. All of this that I do has an ultimate goal,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gambhir did a wordplay while sharing photos with Harbhajan Singh noting his friend’s association with the AAP party.
“AAPse toh purani dosti hai aur rahegi! @harbhajan3,” he captioned his post on Instagram.
