Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the hearts of many with his gesture after he handed over his Player of the Match award to Khushdil Shah post the conclusion of the first ODI against West Indies in Multan on June 8.

Pakistan started the ODI series against West Indies on a high as they completed a comfortable 5-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Asked to bowl first, their bowlers apart from Shadab Khan were at the receiving end of hammering by the visitors.

On account of Shai Hope’s 127, Shamarah Brooks’ 74 and vital contributions from Rovman Powell (32), Nicholas Pooran (21) and Romario Shepherd (25), West Indies posted a total of 305 runs on the board.

They did start well with the ball as they removed Fakhar Zaman (11) early. But skipper Babar Azam yet again stood tall for his side and paved his way through another century to take his side close to the target. He also stitched crucial partnerships with Imam-ul-Haq (65) and Mohammad Rizwan (59).

But after the wicket of Babar for 103, Pakistan found itself in a sort of trouble and lost quick wickets. Just when it seemed momentum was shifting towards West Indies, Khushdil played one of his finest innings and blasted an unbeaten 41 off just 23 balls to take his side home with 4 balls to spare.

With his century, Babar broke a few records as well. He broke Virat Kohli’s record of being the fastest to 1000 runs in ODIs as a captain and this was also the second time he hit three centuries in a row.

Babar was adjudged Player of the Match but instead of taking the trophy he went straight towards the mike and said that he want to give this award to Khushdil Shah.
