This ODI series is part of the ICC World Cup Super League.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam is excited to lead the Men in Green in Multan in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
Earlier, the ODI series was to be played in Rawalpindi, but due to political rallies in Islamabad, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was forced to shift it to Multan.
Notably, this ODI series was originally scheduled to be played in December last year, but a COVID-19 outbreak inside the West Indies camp led to the postponement of the series.
Well, the ODI series is now getting underway at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, June 8, and the Pakistan skipper is over the moon to play in front of the passionate cricket fans of Multan.
Babar Azam told reporters: “It is a really exciting moment for me to lead Pakistan in Multan for this all-important series. Multan is home to passionate cricket fans and it is great to be here. I am looking forward to the fans cheering the return of international cricket after a lengthy gap, and I am sure they will get to see some great cricket at the beautiful Multan Cricket Stadium.”
This ODI series is part of the ICC World Cup Super League, and Pakistan is currently placed 10th in the points table with 6 wins out of their 12 matches, while West Indies are placed in the fourth spot with 80 points from 18 matches.
Given the importance of points for the 2023 World Cup qualification, Babar doesn’t want to let go of a single point, as the hosts are aiming to whitewash the West Indies in the series.
The skipper signed off by saying, “This is an important series for us as it holds important Super League points. The players have been putting in a lot of effort to prepare themselves for the West Indies challenge and we are eager to win another series and bag maximum points to consolidate our chances for direct qualification in the 2023 World Cup.”
