Former England coach Chris Silverwood is all set to take charge of the Sri Lanka cricket team as head coach from next month. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of Silverwood Sri Lanka’s head coach on Saturday (April 10).
His stint with Sri Lanka will start with the upcoming two-match Test series in Bangladesh, starting on May 15. The former England coach is contracted with the SLC for a two-year period.
He will take over from Rumesh Ratnayake, who was appointed as the interim coach of the Sri Lanka team.

SLC CEO Ashley De Silva stated: “We’re delighted to appoint Chris as the new Head Coach of the national team. He is an extremely experienced coach and from our discussions with him in the recruitment process it is clear he has the required qualities we are looking for to take the team forward.”
Meanwhile, Silverwood said on his signing with Sri Lanka as head coach: “I am very excited to be on board with Sri Lanka and I cannot wait to get over to Colombo and get started.”
He signed off by saying, “They have a talented and passionate group of players and I am really looking forward to meeting up with the players and coaching staff very soon.”
Notably, Silverwood worked with England from October 2019 to early 2022. He featured in 6 Tests and 7 ODIs for England and played county cricket for Yorkshire and Middlesex.
